Once it is able to fly, it is released in a controlled place where they are allowed to observe their surroundings. Once the pigeon gets familiar with the place, it will be able to go back to its own loft. It is done every time and as the pigeon learns where to go back; the distance of the loft to the assigned place must be increased in order to train more the pigeons.
Pigeon Racing:The origin
Pigeon racing originated in Belgium during the 19th century. It is being done all over the country and has gained popularity in different places over the years. The pigeon’s effort is the only one taken into account for, regardless of who their owner is. In this sport, the pigeons are released into the air to achieve a certain destination that is far from the place where they were released. The speed and time at which each pigeon was able to reach the destination are recorded and will be compared with that of other pigeons in order to analyze and compare who has the shortest time and highest speed. In this case, time and speed must be measured accurately.
The race does not measure the distance covered by the pigeons but rather the speed at which they were able to return to their loft. This is the rule since you cannot force the pigeon to take only a single route but no matter the distance the pigeon took, what will matter will be the time and speed.
Before the start of the race, the owner will put a rubber ring on the leg of the pigeon and when the pigeon returned on its loft, the owner will remove the ring from the pigeon’s leg and place it in a specialized clock. When the ring is placed, the clock will stop. The clock will be used as proof and will be used to record the time covered by the pigeons. The distance of the place of release to the loft will be used to calculate the speed per min of the pigeon. The pigeon that has the fastest velocity shall be declared as the winner.
